Anthophila 02 — Coastal Fog Collection

A study in atmosphere, geology, and the quiet life of the Pacific shoreline.

Anthophila 02 emerges from the fog-wrapped coastlines of California’s Pacific edge, shaped by the shifting landscapes of Santa Cruz, Monterey Bay, and Big Sur. Along tide-worn shorelines, beneath marine skies, and across cliffs carved by wind and water, the coastal environment reveals a constantly changing palette of mineral tones, organic textures, and softened colors. Tide pools, seabirds, kelp forests, weathered stone, and the quiet life of the intertidal zone became the foundation for this collection.

As the second palette in the Anthophila series, this collection continues an ongoing body of work centered on ecological observation—translating the colors, materials, and atmospheres of specific landscapes into pigment. Where Anthophila 01 explores the flowering forests of the coastal mountains, Anthophila 02 turns toward the meeting point of sea, stone, and sky.

The palette gathers six colors drawn from the coastal environments of Northern California.

Storm Petrel carries a steel blue-gray hue, inspired by ocean skies and the seabirds that move across the open Pacific.
Barnacle settles into a chalky coastal gray, reminiscent of tide-worn shells, salt deposits, and weathered rock.
Kelpstone unfolds into a muted green softened by mineral undertones, reflecting the submerged forests of giant kelp below the surface.
Pacific Sea Star offers a rich grounded purple, drawn from the rare jewel tones found within the intertidal landscape.
Shell Ocher brings a warm earth tone, echoing sedimentary cliffs, shoreline deposits, and the inner glow of seashells.
Sea Granite moves through a translucent mineral wash, inspired by wet coastal stone and ancient geological formations.

Each hue is grounded in direct observation, named for the coastal elements that shaped its character and connected to the layered ecology of the Pacific shoreline. Together, they describe a landscape in motion—fog drifting across the horizon, waves darkening the surface of the sea, sunlight filtering through marine haze, and organic forms resting against stone.

Formulated to create a range of expression, from translucent washes to layered passages of depth and atmosphere. The pigments interact to produce subtle shifts, mineral textures, and quiet harmonies that reflect the natural transitions found along the coast.

A study of ocean fog, weathered geology, and the living edge where sea, earth, and sky are continuously rewritten.
