:: Chariot of Color ::
"The earth, a lotus leaf, drifted on the waters. The 'flower' puskara, is also a stronghold, puskara say the gods,... Life: an intermittent fever between long lapses of quiet, when the leaf wandered on the liquid surface." - excerpt from Ka by Roberto Calasso
The 'Chariot of Color' watercolor palette is the first in our ethnographic series of artisan watercolors that honors the source origins of the culture that these paints have been derived from.
Handcrafted from pigments sourced from different parts of India from a family who has been specializing in offering these beautiful colors for over 25 years. Trace elements within these watercolors include dried herbs, spices, flowers, along with heritage and modern dyes. The colors listed from the top row of the palette swatched from left to right are:
tejas - flame, luminous force // rocana - space of light // sala - a resinous tree
puskara - blue lotus // amrta - immortal, liquid of eternal life // chaya - shadow
These ethnographic pigments have been sublimated in a slow and careful process with the addition of our unique high-quality binder recipe but their durability and lightfastness ratings are as of yet unpublished. We recommend this palette as a collector's item for those who are interested in the beauty of cultural diversity, and for those who value the poetry of painting with ceremonial myth.
Each pan is hand poured to exacting traditional recipes and techniques in our studio using the highest quality earth pigments, and natural watercolor binding medium made from distilled water, honey, glycerine, and the sap of acacia trees.
