Day 23 of our Art journal series is to paint the rain. Using a variety of different watercolor hues start with your lightest shades and paint a series of dashes or drops in a random pattern and array on the page. Let these first colors dry and then paint an overlapping series of drops or dashes in slightly darker hues and then continue this process until you have reached the darkest most saturated colors in your palette.
The finished overall effect is a lovely kaleidoscope of hues that form a beautiful abstract pattern. This also allows you to practice further with color mixing if you choose to leave your raindrops wet while layering them. You can also participate and replicate this technique with colored pencils or pastels.
This journal prompt is meant to be quick taking no more than 5 minutes to complete. I found it very soothing painting these dashes without any expectation of a finished result, just joy in the process of creating.
Please tag your posts #wildthorneoctober on Instagram so that I may view them and comment. As we are nearing the end of the month, it is satisfying to see these completed pages. Also keep adding to your positive aspects page every evening in your journal.
